Fortune Entrepreneur Spotlight on DePaul and Fotofab

DePaul University’s Kellstadt Graduate School of Business pairs graduate students with businesses for quarter-long consulting projects, offering real-world experience and data-driven insights. This program, now in its fourth year, allows students to apply their coursework to actual business scenarios, fostering partnerships with local and international companies. Brian Thompson, a clinical professor of economics at DePaul, highlights the diverse backgrounds of MBA students, which benefit corporations through collaborative problem-solving.

Recent graduates Galen Deats and Ben Hampton partnered with Fotofab, applying theoretical knowledge to practical challenges. This hands-on experience exposes students to niche industries and demonstrates the value of small and medium-sized businesses. The program enriches both the university and participating businesses, providing fresh perspectives and innovative solutions.

Charles Cohen, Fotofab’s president, praises the program and the students.

Graduate students bring a fresh take on some of our business ruts and bottlenecks, and Fotofab
has benefitted from the outside perspective and questions. We have learned about new competitors, reviewed
potential software platforms and were provoked to think about our people and processes.
